Kenya’s Asbel Kiprop Handed Four-Year Ban

Kenyan athlete and former Olympic 1,500 metre champion Asbel Kiprop has been banned for a period of four-years for doping, according to the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).

Kiprop tested positive for erythropoietin (EPO) in November 2017 but has argued that his sample could have been tampered with. He has strongly denied the allegations and alleges that his testers had tipped him off about the visit and taken payment from him. He has stated that he will consult his lawyers on a possible appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The ban for the three times world championship gold medallist was effective from February 2018, meaning he will be unable to compete until February 2022.
