Ugandan Presidential Advisor Donates Boxing Equipment
The Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations Maj Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has pledged to donate boxing equipment to the Uganda Boxing Federation.
The donation includes 2 pairs of boxing gloves, 1 punching bag and 2 punching pads for each of the 40 teams. He announced the contribution at the National Open Boxing Championship at the MTN Arena, Lugogo, this weekend where Lukanga Boxing club were declared the winners of the contest.
Speaking at the event Kainerugaba called on youth to embrace sport for reasons of physical fitness, health and even as a potential livelihood.
"Our sportsmen and women deserve more support and the sports administrators owe it to them and Uganda to ensure that they provide this support efficiently and effectively. Obviously, the government should be in the lead on this front, but as you can see, the private sector can have a powerful impact on the development of sports," he stated.
Uganda has a strong track record when it comes to boxing. As Kainerugaba pointed out of the 47 medals Uganda has won at Olympic and Commonwealth games since 1960, 35 of these have been for boxing.
