German Ambassador Departs Rwanda
Germany’s Ambassador to Rwanda Peter Woeste has left the country after the Rwandan government said it could no longer work with him.
Having been appointed to the post in October 2016 Woeste’s conduct was criticised after some comments he made about the country and President Kagame that we deemed inappropriate by the government.
Woeste’s departure follows the expulsion of a former German ambassador in 2008.
The government says that ties with Germany remain strong however and the country is expected to be represented by its former President Horst Kohler at the commemoration of Rwanda’s 25th anniversary of the genocide this weekend.
