Five Dead As Landslides Hit Uganda
Five people have been confirmed dead, with fears for the safety of many more following heavy rains and landslides in eastern Uganda.
According to the Red Cross, in addition to the five fatalities, an estimated 50 are missing and around 150 homes have been destroyed. With people, houses and animals swept away the full extent of the damage is yet to be calculated.
The landslide occurred on the foothills of Mount Elgon, in Bududa District and near to the Uganda-Kenya border. It is a high risk area for landslides where government has been working to relocate victims of the October 2018 landslides.
