Ugandan Singer Enters Mayoral Race

Award-winning singer Joseph Mayanja (aka Dr Jose Chameleone) has declared his intention to run for Lord Mayor of Kampala in 2021.

The current lord Mayor Erias Lukwago is expected to face a stuff challenge from several others including Latif Ssebaggala, Abed Bwanika, and Dan Kazibwe (aka Ragga Dee).

Speaking local media the singer said it was only natural that artists were moving into Parliament as they had the right to vote and the right to stand as much as any other group.

Chameleone has suggested he will contest the polls as an independent, rejecting the idea that everyone has to subscribe to a particular party. He has also stated that he believe that leadership should by cycled and not stagnant, and that when people realise adequate leadership has not materialised they come forward because they realise they can deliver services the way they want them.
