Ebola Warnings For Uganda
Warnings are being sounded in Uganda concerning the risk of Ebola in the country as cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) rise against a backdrop of violence that has displaced thousands.
A recent spate of attacks over the course of the past month in Beni, North Kivu, has left people trapped between close to the Ugandan border and an area affected by the Ebola outbreak.
It is now estimated that the current Ebola outbreak has claimed around 1,000 lives.
Tough conditions in the area, including a lack of access to water and food shortages, are also a challenge.
Oxfam’s humanitarian programme manager in the DRC Tamba Emmanuel Danmbi-saa has been quoted as stating: "This is a deeply worrying situation. These people fear going back to their homes and are being forced to live in cramped, unsanitary conditions, in an area where Ebola remains a significant threat.”
