Tanzanian Media Mogul Reginald Mengi Dies
Tanzania this week lost media mogul Reginald Mengi, who died at the age of 75 in Dubai.
Having been born in Kilimanjaro in 1944 to impoverished parents, Mengi rose to become one of Tanzania’s wealthiest and most prominent businessmen.
Mengi was best known as the executive chairman of IPP Group, which includes IPP media and owns a number of media outlets spanning TV, radio and print. He was also known for his business credentials covering mining, real estate and consumer goods, as well as his philanthropy.
Commenting on his passing President John Magufuli wrote on Twitter, "I am shocked by the death of an elder and a friend Dr Reginald Mengi. I will remember him for his immense contribution to the development of our country and for the words he wrote in his book [titled] I Can, I Will, I Must. Sorry to members of his family, IPP workers and the entire business community."
Mengi published his autobiography in July 2018, title ‘I Can, I Must, I Will.’
