Tanzania’s Anna Henga Receives International Women of Courage Award
The Executive Director of Tanzania’s Legal and Human Rights Centre Anna Henga has been awarded the 2019 International Women of Courage award.
Henga was selected for the award based on her work to promote human rights, particularly for women and children.
She received the award during a ceremony on March 7 in Washington, US. The ceremony was hosted by the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and First Lady Melania Trump.
Henga is the second Tanzanian to win the award, with journalists Vicky Mketema recognised in 2016. The awards are now in their 13th year and seek to recognise women who have shown exceptional courage and leadership.
