Ethiopian Airline Flight Crashes, Killing 157
On Sunday morning an Ethiopian flight from Addis Ababa crashed, resulting in the death of all 157 persons on board.
The Boeing 737-800 MAX aircraft was carrying 149 passengers and eight crew members. Headed to Nairobi, the flight crashed shortly after take-off from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. It has been reported that there were people of 33 different nationalities on board.
It is thought that the aircraft was the same type as the one involved in a crash in Indonesia in October 2018 when an Indonesia Lion Air flight crashed following take-off from Jakarta, killing the 189 people on board.
China and Ethiopia have since ordered domestic airlines to suspend the commercial operation of the Boeing 737 Max 8. The model’s relevant safety features will now be subject to review.
