CECAFA Launches Under-15 Tournament

The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) has launched a regional tournament for the under-15s category. The inaugural event is expected to take place in Eritrea between August 17 and September 1. 

The tournament is sponsored by the “Fifa Forward Programme” initiative and backed by the Confederation of African Football. It will be the first such event for under-15s on the continent.

The selection of Eritrea as the host for the tournament follows a six-year ban on the country as a result of its tensions with Ethiopia. Ethiopia and Eritrea signed a peace deal in July 2018.

Cecafa includes 13 countries across east and central Africa.
