Tanzania Reveals Provisional Afcon Squad

The coach of the national soccer team Emmanuel Amunike has revealed details regarding the provisional squad for the 2019 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals set to take place in Egypt next month. 

The 39-member squad is also expected to compete in the 2020 Africa Nations Championship (Chan) qualifiers. Among those to feature are striker Kelvin John, who represented the country in the Under-17 Afcon contest, and Ibrahim Ajib.

Taifa Stars, as the team is known, will face Kenya, Senegal and Algeria in Group C fixtures. It is the first time the Tanzanian national team is participating in 39 years, having previously competed in the 1980 finals in Lagos, Nigeria.

The team is expected to arrive in Cairo, Egypt, early next month to step up preparations.
