2019 Cosafa Cup Faces Cancellation

The 2019 Cosafa Cup was scheduled to take place in Zimbabwe ahead of this year’s Africa Cup of Nations finals due to take place in Egypt this June.

The Southern African tournament was expected to provide an opportunity for teams from qualifying countries from the region, Angola, Madagascar, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe, to warm up in a series of matches between May 25 and June 8.

However, the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) appears to have reneged on their earlier agreement to host and as such the tournament appears to be without a venue. In February the government confirmed that there would be no support for the tournament and expressed regret that they were not given proper time to prepare.  

Zifa has been called to attend a disciplinary hearing in South Africa on April 4.
