Sh2.7 Trillion Kenya Budget Announced
Kenya has announced a Sh2.7 trillion budget for the coming financial year.
A projected increase in the deficit from Sh559 to Sh607.8 in 2019/20 will be financed through additional borrowing.
Of the Sh2.7 trillion, Sh1.7 trillion is allocated to recurrent expenditures, with Sh551 billion set aside for interest payments for loans and pensions.
A total of Sh450.9 billion will be spent on the Government’s Big Four Agenda, including Sh15.6 billion for enhanced food security, Sh35.8 billion for Universal Health Care, Sh10.5 billion for affordable and decent housing, and Sh3.8 billion for supporting value addition and manufacturing.
An additional Sh25.1 billion has been allocated towards dam construction, despite the recent controversy surrounding the failure of contractors to progress the Arror and Kimwarer dam projects following reports that more than Sh21 billion was disbursed by the Treasury for their construction.
