Sudanese Protests Continue

Anti-government protests continued this weekend in Sudan, where thousands rallied in the capital Khartoum to call for the resignation of President Omar al-Bashir. Al-Bashir has ruled Sudan for almost 30 years.

This weekend’s protests took place outside of the army’s headquarters as protestors called for the military to support their calls.

There are reports that protestors threw stones at security forces and were met with tear gas, live ammunition ad batons with at least five protestors killed over the course of the weekend.

The protests, which began last year, have resulted in many fatalities, with state figures putting the number of civilian deaths at 32 and Human Rights Watch recording a death toll of 51.
