Sudan’s Army Demands End To Barricades

The interim military Government in Sudan has instructed protestors to end barricades in the capital, which have cut off roads surrounding the military headquarters.

Protestors have continued to demonstrate following the removal of President Omar al-Bashir from office earlier this month amid fears that the military may seek to control the process and prevent substantial change.

The ruling military council has pledged to oversee the country’s path to democratic elections within the next two years, however, protestors claim that the council does not represent change.

This weekend protest leaders, who are demanding the transfer of power to a civilian administration, suspended talks with the ruling council and called for continued demonstrations.

The ruling military council has called for an end to road barricades in order to open up means of transport for essential items and for security purposes.
