Ivanka Trump describes Ethiopia as ‘Incredible’
The daughter of the US president has spent the past three fays visiting Ethiopia and the Cote d’Ivoire promoting Women’s Global Development and Prosperity programme – an initiative to support women across developing countries.
The aim of the funds it to empower 50 million women across developing countries over the next 6 years.
While in Ethiopia, where she met the country’s first female president Sahle-Work Zewde, Trump announced the launch of 2X Africa, a $350 million initiative to support investment in women in Africa in partnership with the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), the U.S. Government’s development finance institution. The initiative has been launched, Ivanka Trump says, “to directly invest capital into supporting women-owned, women-led, and women-supporting projects in Sub-Saharan Africa.”
Reinforcing the business theme of her visit, Trump also met with private sector businesswomen who form part of Ethiopia’s $860 million coffee industry.
