Ebola Case Identified Near South Sudan Border
A health official in South Sudan reported the detection of an Ebola case near the country’s border on Wednesday. The individual was screened inside the DRC border, in Ariwara. This is the closest case recorded to South Sudan during the current outbreak that began in August 2018.
The report follows the death of three individuals in Uganda last month, after members of a family returning from a funeral in the DRC contracted the disease. No new cases of Ebola have been reported in the country since however.
South Sudan’s Disease Control and Emergency Response Centre have deployed a team of reinforcements to the area to increase surveillance following the incident. However, concern remains regarding the various unofficial border crossings.
