Cholera Outbreak Reported in Dar es Salaam

Reports have surfaced that an individual has died from Cholera in Dar es Salaam, whilst 32 others have been admitted to various health facilities within the city.

Whilst inspecting the recent cholera outbreak, Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children’s Minister – Ms Ummy Mwalium – made the following statement.

"Dar es Salaam has received 32 cholera patients; 18 are admitted in Temeke, 13 in Amana and one in Mwananyamala. This is because of failure to abide with hygiene regulations," she said.

She has directed councils to impose punishments on citizens who empty cesspool tanks in the open when its raining. Currently the punishment is at Sh30,000 but she has asked them to increase it to Sh200,00 in order to discourage them from polluting the environment.
