Kenya Continues Dam Investment Amid Corruption Allegations

The Government of Kenya has allocated $247.2 million for the construction of dams during the coming financial year.

The allocation has been made despite construction being halted by the National Assembly Committee on Environment and Natural Resources in March following concerns regarding the compensation of land owners and question marks concerning the lack of progress following the disbursement of funds.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have been tasked with looking into the projects, with the DCI undertaking a probe into a $207.68 million payment to insolvent Italian firm CMC di Ravena which has been contracted to build Arror and Kimwarer dams in Elgeyo Marakwet.
