Vodacom Tanzania CEO Convicted

The CEO of Vodacom Tanzania Hisham Hendi has been convicted along with eight accomplices of economic sabotage and sentenced to seven years in jail or a Sh6 billion fine. The accused pleaded guilty.

The courts have also confiscated communications equipment that was unlawfully used to receive and transmit signals without the necessary approvals.

During the investigation the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority identified laptops, mobile phones and hundreds of sim cards that were diverting incoming international calls to the Vodacom Tanzania network, thereby avoiding government charges and resulting in millions in lost revenues.
