Uganda Joins Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative

Uganda has signed up to the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in a bid to address concerns regarding a lack of transparency in the sector.

In so doing it has agreed to the organisation’s various member requirements designed to improve accountability.

Speaking on the announcement Uganda’s Minister for Finance Matia Kasaija explained, “The decision to join EITI was informed by the appreciation of the values that EITI promotes with regard to disclosure of information about the whole extractive governance chain.”

In the region Tanzania is already a signatory.
