Ugandan player banned for life by FIFA
FIFA, world football’s governing body, has handed a life ban to Ugandan player George Mandela for “match manipulation”.
Mandela was playing for his club side, Kakamega Home Boyz, in the Kenyan Premier League.
Three of his teammates, Moses Chikati, Festus Okiring and Festo Omukoto were also sanctioned with four-year bans for their part in the manipulation.
But Mandela was banned for life for “his central role in the conspiracy”, though FIFA have not yet offered further details.
In a statement released on their website, football’s governing body said “The formal disciplinary proceedings against the aforementioned individuals stemmed from an investigation into various matches from the Kenyan Premier League in 2019.
“This investigation was conducted by FIFA through its Integrity Department with the consent of and in cooperation with the relevant stakeholders and authorities”.
