Liverpool win marks full year unbeaten
The Red’s 2-0 win at home to Sheffield United yesterday maintained their 13-point lead at the top of the Premier League and marked an unbeaten run that now extends a full year.
Jurgen Klopp’s side dominated their visitors with 75 per cent possession and 19 shots to Sheffield’s 3.
Salah latched onto an early ball from Andy Robertson in just the 4th minute, before the Egyptian played in Senegalese Sadio Mané to wrap things up mid-way through the second half.
This latest win means Liverpool have dropped just 2 points from a possible 60 this season and have ensured they start the new year champions elect.
Sheffield manager Chris Wilder said “we never laid a glove on them. If there’s ever an example of a team doing well and with desire, that’s Liverpool”.
He praised their ability to do the basics, telling BBC Sport “The first balls, second balls, running forward, tackling, defending, being aggressive, they [Liverpool] showed all those qualities. It’s a great example for our team”.
Liverpool have a tough run of fixtures this January, starting with the Merseyside derby against neighbours Everton in the FA Cup on Sunday, before they travel to North London to meet Tottenham the following Saturday.
