Kenya’s Salome Biwott Receives 8-year Ban

The IAAF Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has issued Kenyan long distance runner Salome Biwott with an eight-year ban for violating anti-doping rules. She is said to have tested positive for Norandrosterone, which is prohibited.

This is not her first doping offence. Biwott previously faced a two-year suspension in 2012.

A statement from the AIU on the ban reads as follows, “On July 9, 2019, the athlete was given the final opportunity to respond to notice of charge and advised that, if she did not do so by July 11, 2019, she would have been deemed to have waived her right to a hearing before the disciplinary tribunal, to have admitted the Anti-Doping Rule Violation and to have accepted the consequences for those Anti-Doping Rules violation specified in the notice of charge."

According to the body Biwott did not respond to the charges.
