Kenyan Athlete Kipchoge Dominates London Marathon
Kenyan athlete Eliud Kipchoge this weekend won the London Marathon for the fourth time, running the second fastest marathon in history. He previously set a new world record in the Berlin Marathon last year, where he completed the course in just two hours, one minute and 39 seconds.
Upon finishing the race he is quoted as telling BBC Sport, "The crowd in London is wonderful and that spirit pushed me. From the first kilometre to the last, everybody is shouting. I'm happy to cross the line."
Kipchoge was followed by Ethiopia’s Mosinet Geremew and Mule Wasihun who took second and third place in the race. Meanwhile, Kenya also triumphed in the women’s category, with Brigid Kosgei becoming the youngest woman to win the marathon, completing the course in two hours, eighteen minutes and twenty seconds.
More than 40,000 runners took place in Sunday’s event.
