Kenyan Activist Boniface Mwangi Now Free After Police Raid Home
Human rights activist Boniface Mwangi has been released from prison after spending a night behind bars without charges. His detention comes after he called for an anti-government protest at a marathon.
Following his arrest from his Machakos home, he was taken to the Kamukunji police station. His detention caused outrage among his supporters who demanded his release.
It is reported that Mwangi had been mobilizing people on X (formerly Twitter) to call for President William Ruto's resignation with the hashtags #RutoMustGo and #OccupyStanChart, which refers to the Standard Chartered marathon, the race's official name. He urged people to dress up in the national flag colours, wear bandanas with the message "RutoMustGo", and share protest chants online.
