Tanzania: Arrest warrant issued for Zitto Kabwe

A Dar es Salaam court has issued an arrest warrant for the firebrand opposition politician, Zitto Kabwe, for failing to appear in court.

Mr Kabwe is facing three charges of sedition, dating back to October 2019, over comments he made during a press conference in the country’s commercial capital.

He was brought before the court the following month and charged with incitement.

This is not the first time the leader of the opposition ACT Wazalendo has clashed with authorities, having previously spent two days in police custody after he claimed 100 people were killed in clashes between herders and police in Kigoma.
