Rwanda frees Ugandans amid growing tensions
Nine Ugandan nationals have been freed from custody in Rwanda and had all charges dropped against them, in a move that could be aimed at easing diplomatic tensions between the two countries.
The men stood accused of kidnapping and the illegal possession of firearms, and were due to stand trial at a military tribunal.
All of the accused are set to be deported back to Uganda.
The move has come at a time when the strained relationship between the neighbouring East African countries remains tense.
In September, Ugandan authorities claimed Rwanda had illegally detained 200 of its citizens, following accusations from Kigali that Uganda had supported anti-government rebels in an effort to destabilise the government.
Kampala has also accused Rwanda of infiltrating its security services, though this latest move could signal an easing of tensions between the former allies.
