Zimbabwe's Former President Robert Mugabe Dies Aged 96

The Former President of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe, has died ages 95.

It is reported he died in a Singapore hospital, surrounded by his family including his wife Grace.

Upon the news, current President Emmerson Mnangagwa posted on Twitter: "It is with the utmost sadness that I announce the passing on of Zimbabwe's founding father and former President, Cde Robert Mugabe".

He continued; "Cde Mugabe was an icon of liberation, a pan-Africanist who dedicated his life to the emancipation and empowerment of his people. His contribution to the history of our nation and continent will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in eternal peace".

Mugabe was sworn into power on the 18th April 1980, upon entering office he seemed to many a figure of hope and inspiration preaching ‘whether you are black or white, forgive others and forget, join hands in a new unity.’

He went on to have one of the most controversial and arguably brutal regimes in the history of Africa.
