Govt Official Dramatically Slips Away From Inspectors During Arrest

A government official, on Wednesday, outsmarted inspectors from the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), who had been deployed to arrest him.

According to a report by The Star, one of the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) managers, Moses Kipkabus, got away while he was entertaining the inspectors.

In a dramatic turn, Kipkabus reportedly dashed to his car and immediately sped off, leaving the inspectors stranded in the compound.

The paper further detailed that the NEMA officials had finished their inspection of EPZA's dumpsite and were headed to its sewer line area when the manager disappeared.

Kipkabus had earlier resisted accompanying the officials during the inspection.

The NEMA officers had paid the company an impromptu visit after discovering that it was among the city's biggest polluters of Nairobi River.

Another EPZ leader, Paul Gicheru, was, however, not impressed by the crackdown and so he attacked NEMA for targeting the company.

He argued that it was ridiculous for them to unleash their wrath on companies that offer jobs to thousands of Kenyans.

“Why can’t Nema engage constructively? What do they want to achieve after the arrests?” Posed Gicheru.

He further explained that most firms that polluted the river were not linked to EPZ.
