Courts Convict Don For Insulting President

The courts in Uganda has found Makerere Univeristy don Dr Stella Nyanzi guily of cyber harassment in relation to comments made by the professor regarding President Museveni and his family.

Having been in custody at Luzira Maximum Security Prison since last year, Dr Nyanzi this week defended herself in court. She was acquitted of offensive communication but found guilty of cyber harassment under the Computer Misuse Act.

The offending comments were contained in a Facebook post mentioning President Museveni, his wife and his late mother.

Cyber harassment is punishable with three years in prison or a fine.
