Kenyan Governor Charged With Graft
Governor of Kiambu Ferdinand Waititu has been charged with graft in relation to an irregular tender worth more than Sh580 million.
Mr Waititu’s wife has also been charged, after the pair and eight others on the recommendation of the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has been investigating a tender for the upgrading of roads in Kiambu County that was awarded to Testimony Enterprises Limited for Sh588 million. The group’s report to Haji named Waititu along with eleven other suspects in relation to charges of conflict of interest, dealing with suspect property, abuse of office and wilful failure to comply with procurement laws.
Waititu and his wife have denied the charges. The pair spent the night in cells before appearing before Milimani Law Court on Monday.
