Kenya, South Sudan To Establish Joint Border Commission
Kenya and South Sudan have announced a deepening of trade tries following bilateral talks between President Uhuru Kenyatta and President Salva Kiir.
Among the announcements made by the pair are plans for Kenya to hold a trade export in the South Sudanese capital of Juba later this year and the allocations of land for a dry port to South Sudan at the Naivasha Special Economic Zone, as well as a logistics hub near Lamu port. Trans-national highways such as Eldoret-Lokichoggio-Nadapal-Kapoeta-Torit-Juba Road will also be prioritised, along with the LAPSSET projects.
Additionally, Kenya and South Sudan have announced their intention to establish a joint border commission. According to the leaders a ministerial team has drafted a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the delimitation and demarcation of common border.
"The framework will provide the necessary guidelines for engagement on boundary matters, which, in the spirit of brotherhood and in recognition of the deep friendship between our States, will always be amicable," said President Kenyatta.
