Opposition Leaders Advance Alliance Plans in Uganda

Talks between former presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye and People Power and its popular figurehead Robert Kyagulanyi MP, also known as Bobi Wine, are continuing in Uganda.

Kyagulanyi and Besigye are seeking to agree a joint strategy ahead of the 2021 general elections in a bid to unseat incumbent President Yoweri Museveni, who has been in power since 1986 and is expected to run for a sixth term in office as the candidate of the ruling National Resistance Movement Party (NRM).

According to the chairperson of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Mr Waswa Biriggwa discussions are now at an advanced stage and a public announcement on the agreed resolution is expected soon.

Singer Bobi Wine has made his intentions to run for the presidency clear on several occasions. At 37-years old the musician-turned-politician is just half the age of Museveni who is 74. Dr. Kizza Besigye has represented the FDC in the past four elections.
