Kenyan Governor Arrested For Sh84 Million Graft Allegation
Kenya’s Governor for Samburu, Moses Kasaine, was arrested during a raid on his home on Tuesday morning by detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
Kasaine is being detained at the EACC headquarters in Nairobi in connection with allegations concerning his involvement in a Sh84 million fuel supply scandal.
His arrest was conducted at the request of Kenya’s chief public prosecutor who called for the prosecution of the leadership of Samburu County in connection with revelations concerning the scandal. Kasaine’s deputy, a further 11 sitting and former officers, and businessman Hesbon Ndathi are among the named suspects.
Ndathi and Kasaine are alleged to own Oryx Service Station which was awarded a contract to supply the county government in violation of the law. Kasaine faces charges of conspiracy to commit an economic crime, abuse of office and conflict of interest.
