Tanzanian Police Force’s Mission Billions Revealed

The police force in Tanzania is under the spotlight after the Controller and Auditor General (CAG) Mussa Assad revealed the embezzlement of millions from police force accounts.

Specifically funds of Sh3.658 billion connected to the procurement of an Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) are either missing or not supported by the necessary documentation confirming that the expenditure took place.

The CAG’s report identifies a number of questionable contracts and payments, including trainings costing Sh604,390,244 that appear never to have taken place and serious irregularities concerning the purchase of 777 Ashok Leyland Vehicles.

"About 58 dell monitors costing Sh159,166,100 delivered to Forensic Unit could not be traced during the time of the audit... I also noted 213 Dell monitor Optiplex with model L2250P 22 inches were not delivered by M/S Lugumi Enterprises Limited and thus a substantial loss of Sh195,221,682 suffered by the government," the CAG’s report also states.
