Kenyan DP Hits Out At Director Of Criminal Investigations

Deputy President William Ruto has criticised the Director Of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti, claiming the DCI is being used for political purposes. Specifically he has charged that Kinoti is being used to undermine the mega projects of the Jubilee party.

The DCI is currently investigating projects such as the two phantom dams, for which Sh21 billion was released from the Treasury but little progress has been made on the ground. A number of public officials have been called before the DCI for questioning on the matter.

However, Ruto charges that the investigations are being used to serve a political agenda and to destabilize the projects that are meant to form a key part of the government’s delivery on its manifesto pledges.

“I want to be clear that we fully support the fight against corruption. But we will resist and reject any attempts to weave political narratives and propaganda into the projects in the name of fighting graft,” the Deputy President is quoted as saying.

“Let me make it clear that we know where the current narrative on corruption is going. It started with Standard Gauge Railway, Eurobond, Port of Mombasa and they are now in dams.

“Our opponents are using backdoor tactics to undermine government projects, especially the Big Four agenda. I wish to remind them that we will forge on with our development agenda, which will be used by voters as a scorecard in the next general election,” he added.
