Kenya Agrees $3.3bn Infrastructure Deals With France
Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and French President Emmanuel Macron have announced infrastructure deals worth $3.3bn during a state visit to Nairobi.
President Macron arrived in Kenya following visits to Djibouti and Ethiopia. His stay in Kenya, where he also attended the One Planet Summit, is the first time a French president has visited the country.
Among the projects agreed is a railway line between Nairobi to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, due for completion in 2021. Another contract on the table would upgrade roads between Nairobi and Mau.
Speaking on the relationship between the two countries President Macron said France offered Kenya a “respectful” partnership and that the country was looking to forge relations that are “much more fair and profitable for the Kenyan people.” He also spoke about the importance of sustainability.
