Presidential Aspirants Declare for Uganda’s 2021 Elections

Former Ugandan presidential candidate Maureen Kyalya has this week confirmed that she intends to stand for office again in the 2021.

Despite winning only 0.44% of the vote in 2016, she has been reported as telling Uganda’s Daily Monitor "I will stand in 2021, God willing. I am coming in my own political party whose registration will be finalised in July this year."

Kyalya’s declaration comes after opposition MP Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as musician Bobi Wine, last week announced his intention to challenge President Museveni. Kyagulanyi has already unveiled some of his plans should he be successful, including the abolishment of the Shs 200 social media tax and a commitment to tackling impunity.
