Kenyatta Fires Sports Minister

President Uhuru Kenyatta has dismissed sports minister Rashid Echesa as part of a Cabinet reshuffle. He has served in the position since January 2018.

Echesa has been in the spotlight recently over alleged links to Joseph Waswa, who conned businessman Naushad Merali out of Ksh10 million by impersonating the President. There are also rumoured links between the now-former minister and a house in Ruiru where Ksh32 billion in cash and gold was found. Echesa has denied the rumours and dismissed them as political propaganda.

Education minister Amina Mohamed has replaced Echesa, while the chairman of the Kenya National Examination Council Prof. George Magoha has been given the education portfolio.

Information Principal Secretary Fatuma Hirsi has also been dismissed.
