Kenya Drops on Global Corruption Perceptions Index

Kenya has dropped one point in the 2018 Global Corruption Perception Index, in a blow to the government of President Uhuru Kenyatta, which has been championing its fight against the scourge.

The index, published by Transparency International, ranks 180 countries and territories using a scale of 0 to 100 where 0 is highly corrupt.

In the 2018 rankings Kenya has moved down from 28 points to 27 points, with a position of 144.  Meanwhile Burundi scored 17 points, DRC 20, Uganda 26, Tanzania 36, and Rwanda 56.

It wasn’t all bad news for Kenya, however, with Transparency International identified Kenya, along with Angola, Nigeria, Botswana and South Africa, as one to watch in light of promising political developments. It also noted the importance of citizen engagement in the fight against corruption.
