Sexual Violence Cases Grow In Ethiopia's Amhara Region - Report
The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission has released a deeply troubling report, highlighting the widespread occurrence of sexual violence linked to the conflict in the Amhara region. The report reveals that since July 2021, over 200 cases of rape have been registered at different health facilities, with victims including displaced women and health workers, Addis Standard reports.
Amhara region has been plagued by rising conflict between the military and Fano militia. A meeting of Ethiopia's Council of Ministers in August agreed on a State of Emergency in Amhara region but this has brought little change in the region.
