Ugandan broadcaster forced to apologise following race campaign blunder

NBS, a privately-owned broadcaster in Uganda, has been forced to apologise following an anti-racism campaign it held during which its employees wore t-shirts emblazoned with the All Lives Matter slogan during one of its shows.

It released a statement in which it said it did not intend cause any offence, adding “we shall do better”.

NBS has deleted photos it posted to Twitter showing some of its employees posing in the t-shirts but has kept up a video of a dance during which some of the participants can be seen wearing the t-shirts.

The phrase All Lives Matter is seen as the antithesis of the Black Lives Matter movement which looks to highlight systemic racism faced by black people and campaigns for racial equality.

The Black Lives Matter movement has been reignited in recent days following the killing of George Floyd, an unarmed black man, by a white police officer, in the US city of Minneapolis.
