Outdoor exercise banned in Uganda
The government in Uganda has taken the lockdown one step further and banned all forms of exercise in public, in order to further contain the spread of the coronavirus.
The president, Yoweri Museveni, said people should exercise at home where possible, and said he would upload a video to social media to show people how this can be done.
The move comes just days after videos were circulated online showing people exercising in groups outdoors, defying the social distancing directive.
Museveni has also banned the movement of all motorbike taxis, locally known as “boda bodas”.
They had previously been allowed to carry cargo and deliveries, though many were still carrying customers.
The number of people confirmed to have the coronavirus in Uganda now stands at 53, according to the Health Ministry, while more than 3,500 have been tested.
The current lockdown measures are in place for a two-week period, though it is widely expected to last beyond that.
