Search and rescue underway after flash floods in Kenya
Search and rescue efforts are underway in western Kenya, where heavy rain has brought on mudslides and flash floods.
West Pokot County has been affected most, where residents say several schools, a police outpost and a market have been swept away, leaving a number of houses isolated.
The Kenyan Red Cross say the flooding has made the area totally inaccessible, and they are struggling to get much-needed supplies to those left there.
Footage has been shared online of flooding in the neighbouring county of Elgeyo-Marakwet, where last night 15 people were unaccounted for, according to the Red Cross, though six have since been located and are receiving medical treatment.
Local officials are pleading with the government to provide helicopters for the search and rescue effort.
This is the second time in less than six months the area has been hit by severe rain, after dozens were killed and hundreds left homeless when a landslide buried entire villages after heavy downpours last November.
