Uganda sends travellers refusing to self-quarantine home
22 foreigners who refused to self-quarantine on their arrival to Uganda have been sent home, according to Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng.
They arrived at Entebbe International Airport for a two-day business forum.
Those entering Uganda from “category one” countries must self-isolate for 14 days before they are allowed to enter the country.
Uganda’s Health Ministry has categorised Italy, Iran, South Korea, France, China, Germany and Spain as high-risk “category one” countries.
None of those sent home presented any symptoms of the coronavirus, and opted to go home rather than self-isolate, which would have forced them to miss the conference.
Uganda is hosting a two-day business forum attended by delegates from Europe, many of whom will come from “category one” nations.
Dr Aceng took to Twitter to write about the incident: “We informed them about our procedure of self quarantine for 14 days. However, they were not willing to undergo this self quarantine.
“Today, they will return to their home countries. I want to reiterate Uganda has NO confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19”.
