Rwandan who defied lockdown eaten by crocodile

A man who defied lockdown in Rwanda to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus in order to go fishing, was killed and eaten by a crocodile, according to the mayor of the Kamonyi district, in the south of the country.

Alice Kayitesi told reporters the incident occurred in the Nyabarongo river on Wednesday morning.

“He had broken the stay-home rule, he’s among very few people here who are not cooperating with the lockdown to stop the virus”, she said.

The government in Rwanda took early and decisive action to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, implementing a lockdown during the very early stages of pandemic in Africa.

The country now has 40 confirmed cases of the virus.

The lockdown has hit the most vulnerable in society the hardest, especially those in the low-income bracket, though the government has pledged to support them through this difficult period.
