Tanzanian rapper tests positive for the coronavirus
One of Tanzania’s most popular rappers, Mwana FA, has told fans he has tested positive for the coronavirus.
The artist, whose real name is Khamis Mwinjuma, admitted to feeling ill on his return from South Africa, when he began exhibiting symptoms of the virus.
Tests then confirmed he had Covid-19, the respiratory illness brought on by the coronavirus.
Mwinjuma appealed to his fans on social media to follow the medical advice, keep washing their hands and maintain social distances.
Writing in Swahili, he said “I’ve decided to record this video message to tell you that this disease is real”, before signing off with the plea “Let’s take care of each other”.
Sallam, the manager of Diamond Platinumz, another of Tanzania’s music stars, has confirmed he also has the virus.
Again writing on social media, Sallam reassured his one million Instagram followers he was in good spirits, asking people to “Be safe everyone out there. This too will pass”.
