COVID-19: Rwandan ‘healer’ arrested

A man in northern Rwanda has been arrested after claiming to have a cure for the coronavirus in a video widely shared on YouTube.

According to Marie Michelle Umuhoza, spokesperson for the Rwanda Investigation Bureau, the man claimed to be a ‘traditional healer’, and was taken into custody on Tuesday.

She said the police would not tolerate any efforts to misinform or mislead the public over the coronavirus pandemic.

The video has since been taken offline.

The government has taken strict measures to prevent the further spread of the virus, including closing schools and places of worship.

Rwanda currently has six confirmed cases of COVID-19.
