Police shoot Christians over church dispute in Ethiopia
Police in Ethiopia have shot two Orthodox Christians during a protest in Addis Ababa, the capital, over a disputed church.
Police arrived to demolish a church, which they say is being built illegally, and were met by angry protestors who threw stones at them.
They responded with tear gas and live ammunition in an effort to disperse the crowd.
In recent months Ethiopia has seen a rice in religious and ethnic violence, particularly since Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s liberalising reforms have relaxed free speech laws.
